Staff Phoenix Business Journal The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is pulling back from its immigration raids and other programs aimed at immigrants illegally in the country. The MCSO has taken references to illegal immigration down from its website, including a tip line regarding businesses suspected of hiring undocumented workers. The police agency is also suspending controversial workplace raids and crime sweeps that brought national attention to Sheriff Joe Arpaio. The move comes after a federal court ruling that the MCSO unfairly targeted Hispanics. It also comes after an effort to recall Arpaio fell short of enough voter signatures to make the ballot.
